20" x 24". The collage has copies drawings of flowers in my backyard from my summer sketchbook and shredded up maps of Carlsbad. The drawings with me eatin' an apple are colored pencil and watercolor with a dash of white acrylic paint for the highlights.

ceramics. High fire glazes w/matte acrylic paint on top. I'm quite pleased with them.

This half mask is my favorite. It's the only one I plan to keep. I'm giving the other two to my dance teacher Betzi. She asked for a piece of art in exchange for the sweet letter of recommendation she gave me.

First off, some 30 second gestures, because suddenly I rule at them.

Not in a traditional way, but I like them.

Today was a portrait day. We did two shade only drawings. This is my favorite.

Then we did some subtractive value drawings. I hate them.

I like the unfinished hand in this one.

I guess the rest of my class copped out and bought flesh toned pastels, but I kept mixing away.

This one reminds me of a book my Nana had called Pornographics, where they'd painted clothes and objects on top of famous paintings of naked people.

Here it is. These pieces are all completely hand made, mostly pinch method, but I had to use slab to make the plates. I used two earthy red-brown glazes, dripped the darker one over the lighter one with my fingers. They are all lumpy and finger-marked on the outside and smooth on the inside. I fed my teacher some bullshit about the fingermarks symbolizing the human touch, humanity bla bla, but the truth is, I just like how the glaze reacts to texture.

The handle broke, and with it my heart.

And here is an extra bowl and a little jar I made. I am very happy with the glazes.

18" x 24" pastel 25 minutes

We've been working with color lately, and I've been really happy with it. We're going to do realistic color soon, and I have this feeling I'll be a little less happy unless I've magically gotten much better at mixing skin tone than I was in high school. I'm not ruling that out as a distinct possibility.

18" x 24" pastel 20 minutes

We didn't do much drawing today, but my teacher showed us some slides of her work from when she was in college up to present and it was really inspirational. College art classes are so many millions of times better than the ones I took in high school. My teachers are actually working artists. They let me experiment.
I remember in high school Ms. Kendall wouldn't let us use black in our paintings because the impressionists didn't use black, as if art stopped evolving after impressionism.
I feel better now, and I'm so glad I'm going to cca in January. I feel like I finally know what I'm doing.

I made this with the intention of making a vase.

It cracked between some of the coils in the bisque firing, but I figured I could glaze over it and it would be fine. I stained the outside with iron oxide and dipped it in clear glaze. For some reason, not only did the clear glaze turn green, it also didn't fill in the cracks, so I have this big, ugly, useless object. I'm starting to really like it.

I also made these:

I love my little teacup, and the glaze is safe so I can actually use it. The other is a little candle holding device and it is supposed to look like the moon. Unfortunately, the alleged blue-grey "moonlight" glaze also didn't come out the way I'd planned.
Those are the only pieces I've brought home yet, but I have a whole teaset, photos coming soon.

This is a negative space drawing. I did it about a month and a half ago, and it's not really what the assignment was supposed to look like, but I really like it anyway.

The bros in my class said that this one was morbid and disturbed them, but I don't see it. I think it's pretty.
